Fee Waivers

Fee Waivers are available for fall quarter admission only. They are open to US citizens, permanent residents, and DACA/AB540/130/131 eligible only; international students are not eligible.  Eligibility is based on program participation, financial need or US veteran status and is determined by completion of the Survey and Personal History sections of the online application. If, based on information provided in the Survey and Personal History sections, an applicant is determined to be eligible to apply for a waiver, instructions will be presented on the Payment page of the application. This will allow you to submit the application without paying a fee, though your application will not be reviewed until a fee waiver is granted or the fee is paid. Please note that waivers are not automatically granted.

Documentation required for approving a fee waiver request must be received by the Graduate Division no later than 7 days after submission of a graduate application for admission or by March 4 (whichever comes first) of the same calendar year. Applicants requesting a fee waiver who do not meet this deadline will have their application reset.

The graduate program application deadline will supersede the Graduate Division’s deadline for fee waiver submission. Applicants should be sure the Graduate Division has all supporting documentation required before the program deadline.

Please do not send us any type of fee waiver documentation until after you have submitted your online application. We do not review any fee waiver documentation before a student has applied.

Do not submit both a fee waiver request and an application fee payment. All payments are final. If you submit a payment, you will not receive a refund. If your request for a fee waiver is not approved, you will receive an email requesting the application fee.
