The University of California, Irvine welcomes Chilean students pursuing higher education in the United States. UC Irvine is pleased to participate in the Chile-California Program on Human Capital Development (Becas Chile) and to expand its relationship with Chilean students and universities.

What is Becas Chile?

Becas Chile is a scholarship program sponsored by the Chilean government to send the next generation of Chilean leaders abroad to study for postgraduate degrees in energy, biotechnology, IT, environment, health, education, science, and engineering.

The Chile-California Program on Human Capital Development was established in November 2008 through an agreement between the University of California and the Chilean government, which recognizes the common interest of developing highly qualified human capital in both countries through collaborative initiatives. One goal of this program is to increase Chilean students' access to advanced degree studies in California. Through this program, UC will provide master's and doctoral degree studies to Chile's best and brightest students who have been awarded scholarships by the Chilean Bicentennial Fund for Human Capital Development (Becas Chile).

Priority fields of study for Chilean scholarship recipients at UC Irvine may include:

  • Biotechnology
  • Information and Computer Sciences
