La Verne Noyes Fellowship

Introduction

UCI's Graduate Division plans to award one La Verne Noyes Fellowship for academic year 2009-2010. The fellowship is intended to provide support to academically superior students in need of financial assistance in funding their education, in the form of a $7,000 total stipend for the academic quarter of the award. Award preference will be given to those students who have not previously received this award. Students must be enrolled full time (in a minimum of 12 units) in the academic quarter in which the student chooses to take the award. Please note that this award cannot be deferred to a subsequent academic year.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the La Verne Noyes Fellowship, the applicant must be a United States citizen who is a blood descendant of a United States Army or Navy World War I veteran, who served for at least four months prior to November 11, 1918, and whose military service was terminated by death or an honorable discharge.

Students from any academic unit who meet the criteria may apply. To be considered, all individual student applications must include the following:

All AY 2009-10 application materials must be received in the Graduate Division no later than noon on Friday, May 15, 2009. Applications must be submitted by the student.

Application Process: (last updated April 27, 2009)

  1. Student is to complete the new application form
    1. The application form is a fillable/savable Word documents and can be found on the Graduate Division Web site: La Verne Noyes Fellowship Application Form
  2. Save application forms in Word as "NOYES - SID#.doc" (e.g. "NOYES - 12345678.doc")
  3. Print and sign the application form
  4. Scan all documents to a single PDF file for each applicant once forms are final with signatures, in this order:
    1. Application form
    2. Student's current Curriculum Vitae
    3. Cover letter confirming U.S. citizenship and specifying the student's relationship to the veteran
    4. Photocopies of the respective veteran's honorable discharge papers.

    NOTE! For students who are unable to scan to a single PDF file, multiple files are OK

  5. Save the new PDF file as before, "NOYES - SID#.pdf" (e.g. "NOYES - 12345678.pdf")
  6. Prepare to send as follows when all documentation is complete::
    1. Email to Nguyen.Long@uci.edu:
      1. Each original Word .doc application form
      2. Each PDF packet (packet to include items listed above)
  7. DEADLINE to submit applications to the Graduate Division: Friday May 15, 2009
    1. Incomplete application packets will not be reviewed
    2. No exceptions to this deadline will be considered

This award does not fund a student's non-resident tuition.
