UC Irvine's doctoral candidate Payel Chowdhury has recently been selected for a summer internship with the United Nations (UN) in New York City. An Economics major in the School of Social Sciences, Payel is also president of UCI's Associate Graduate Students (AGS). The full-time internship begins on June 25th and runs through September 21 in New York City.

The United Nations Internship Programme is one of the most prestigious and highly coveted opportunities available to graduate and post-doctoral scholars. Approximately 3,000 graduate and post-graduate students compete for roughly 300 positions.

"I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to apply all that I have learned here at UCI to the real-world," Payel notes. "Being in the hub of New York City will be a new experience and one to which I am looking forward."

Payel will be working in the Division of Public Administration and Development Management in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs where she will be able to apply her knowledge in economics to a wide range of UN projects.
