Letter of Recommendation
Graduate applicants must have three letters of recommendation submitted on their behalf. It is important that the letters be submitted by instructors in a discipline related to the proposed course of study who are in a position to analyze the applicant's abilities and academic promise. Letters of recommendation may be submitted online or on paper via regular mail.
Waiving your right of access to the letters of recommendation is optional. However, the Admissions Committee cannot use letters of recommendation intended to be confidential unless the applicant waives any and all rights of access by signing the Waiver of Access statement.
Online Submission
For the Applicant: Letters of recommendation may be submitted online only after you have completed and submitted your online application. Once you have submitted your application, send your recommenders a link to this page: http://apps.grad.uci.edu/letrec and your "Application Number," which they will need to log into the online letter of recommendation system.
You may check online to see whether your electronic letters of recommendation have been submitted. Please note that this feature does not reflect letters of recommendation that have been submitted on paper.
For the Recommender: Please visit the Online Letter of Recommendation page to create a personal profile or to edit an existing letter.
Paper Submission
To have your letters of recommendation and waiver of access forms submitted on paper, please use our PDF recommendation form. Please complete the "fillable" portions of the form at your desktop, and print out the form (including the waiver of access form) at a local printer. NOTE: Regardless of whether you waive your right of access to a particular letter of recommendation, you must sign, and forward the waiver of access form, together with the letter of recommendation form, to your letter writers.
