Responsible conduct of research (RCR) requires a clear understanding of ethical reasoning, intellectual property, acknowledgement of contributions, including authorship, and conflict of interest. For postdocs and students funded through National Institutes of Health or National Science Foundation, training in RCR is required. Many entities at UC Irvine monitor, assist in and regulate ethics and professional responsibility. UC Learning Center offers on-line training by logging on with your uci id and accessing the Responsible Conduct of Research modules. The online tool Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) also provides training in these subjects.
Many schools and programs at UCI offer training in these matters, including:
The Office of Research oversees all research and is responsible for regulatory compliance.
The Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (OEOD) is responsible for UCI’s compliance with all state and federal policies, guidelines and regulations, including providing training to avoid sexual harassment and/or discrimination due to gender, race, ethnicity or religion.
For resolution of serious conflicts, the Ombuds Office offer services and administer the Whistle Blower Act which protects those reporting infractions of ethical policies.
